On Saturday night, with the rain relenting and the mercury rising just enough to leave coats at home, it seemed as though most of the 338,000 fans here for the race had descended on the Formula One fan-zones in downtown Montreal.

A brass band played, thirsts were quenched at pop-up bars, and stalls set up by the F1 teams kept everyone entertained.

Rue Sainte-Catherine, Montreal’s answer to Oxford Circus, was closed for the evening, adding to the party atmosphere.

This meant that there were only a few streets open for cars to drive down and it seemed as though everyone with a supercar had decided to crawl through the traffic.
