Rudy Gobert has seen his name dragged into all sorts of trade rumors of late. It somehow feels like it’s only a matter of time before the Utah Jazz announce that they have struck a trade deal for the three-time Defensive Player of the Year. One team he won’t be joining, however, is the Atlanta Hawks.
The Hawks have themselves been rumored to be on the brink of blowing up their squad. Atlanta has been linked to some major moves, including a potential swoop on Gobert. According to a report by The Athletic, though, this just isn’t going to happen:
Sources significantly downplayed the idea that Atlanta wants Gobert and said this scenario has been wildly overblown. For starters, the Hawks still think very highly of center Clint Capela and franchise centerpiece Trae Young is known to be quite close with him as well.
There have been reports indicating that John Collins could be on his way out of Atlanta. The Hawks would need a replacement for him should he leave, and Gobert is without a doubt one of the top big men in the league. To a certain extent, Gobert to Atlanta actually makes some sense. This does not appear to be the mindset the Hawks’ front office currently possesses, though. Atlanta is one team that we can now cross off the list of Gobert’s potential landing spots.
